Written by a woman and for women. But it is a book that really should be read by males. I found myself saying, "Really? I hadn't thought of it like that." Then in the next chapter something like, "Oh, well I guess that is right...Hmmmm!" You, male or female, will get some smiles, some chuckles, and some new view points.Ken V.

Observation City Kerry Louise Connelly 9781482333909 Books Reviews
First of all, what a hilarious opening; "Whoever thought the idea of cupid as a romantic one? If I saw a man dressed in diapers walking toward me with a bow and arrow I'd scream for security and run the other way!" Kerry doesn't disappoint at delivering such witty and empowering sparks of truth! The evening I started to read this book, was after a long day of soul-searching and 'man-trouble', and reading Kerry's section on Love was the perfect balm to ease my stressed heart! It was as if she had been through the exact same things as me and was speaking directly to me about these things! I am so greatful that Kerry chose to share her insights with us. Reading this book feels like going out for cocktails for that much needed 'girls night out'. As you read the sections on attitude and life you will know you are reading words from a true visionary with a giant heart and a playful temperament! One great thing about Kerry's outlook is, she's able to see both sides to each story; Not only does it analyze with an empathetic angst the frustrations of love, attitude and life, but it also offers some positive ways of receiving painful experiences and is truly uplifting and empowering. I love how Kerry encourages women to think outside of the stereotypical thinking we have been brainwashed with, and to open up to more realistic ways of thinking for ourselves. What a modern concept! Something this book is full of! I am sure that this will become a cherished read that I will return to for some giggles, as well as for it's truths, over and over again! This book is a real gift and may potentially be a perfect heirloom!
When I met Kerry Louise Connelly and learned about her book, Observation City, I had no idea what to expect as I haven't read this kind of book before. If I was to classify it, it would fall under something philosophical and classic. I'm very glad I took the chance because it was a refreshing change from my normal range of crime thriller, to love story, to inspirational memoir genre you can normally find me writing or reading.
I loved the excellent writing style. I loved Kerry's witty personality that shined through her stories. Here's one that jumped out at me
Love The good, the bad and the epic fail Just pass me the ice cream now!
"Nice guys Finnish last? Who came up with that load of nonsense? If that were true there would be an orchestra of men out there who played more than just their big fat trumpets!
Ahhh, the games people play, that's right... Strap on your stilettos, fasten your bracelets and lay down your debit card, (didn't you hear men don't pay for their dates anymore?) - And get ready for a potentially bumpy ride.
First off, don't ever trust a man who addresses you as "Gorgeous". It's not a compliment ladies. He's either forgotten your name or is too scared to venture one in case a "Celia" or "Julie" pops out- It's a compliment in sheep's clothing."
Kerry weaved from one scene to the next with skill and it flowed like music going from one song to the next. I highly recommend this book for all readers who like comedy, flair, seamless, quality writing, relationship banter, and especially those in relationships and those in between relationships!
I'm glad I read this book and got to know Kerry. I'm looking forward to more from her.
Observation City is a collection of pieces written by the author. There are twenty one pieces in all and each one is categorized in a section of Love, Attitude or Life.
The section of love is my favorite in this book. Kerry talks about things like Cupid, Fairy Tale Romance and why we keep getting into relationships with people who are bad for us. She adds funny remarks and makes the reader feel good even when she is talking about a heartbreaking situation.
Attitude was my least favorite section of the book but that's not to say that it's poorly written or anything, it was just my least favorite of the three. However I did feel that this section contained the most important pieces that I think everyone should read and learn from. Specifically "Live and Let", "Gaining Gilmore", and "Rage-ahol Black, Two Sugars Please". It's refreshing to see that someone else in this crazy world believes in respect for other human beings. Respect of other peoples life choices and cultures is common sense and has been told to us all hundreds of times. Regardless I really enjoyed the way Kerry brought it all together so well here.
Kerry's section on Life is similar to her section on Attitude in that she brings up a lot of good points regarding peoples behaviors and attitudes. I liked this section more than attitude only because it made me laugh. This focuses more on women's rights and although it is funny to read it really makes you think about how difficult women have it in this world.
This book was clearly written for women but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable for a man to read. In fact I think a lot of men could learn quite a bit from reading this book. Kerry did a wonderful job with her debut as an author and I look forward to her future work.
What I like about this book is that the author is able to reflect on situations about her life without taking over the story with her own opinion.
The way the book is split up into different sections makes it easy to read over your morning cup of coffee, and is a great way to start your day off with a bit of a giggle.
I think it's a excellent for a first time author, and good on her for having the initiative to self-publish.
I hope her next book is a bit longer though!
