One of the workshops we like to host for our girls program is the pre-school Amazing Girls Book Club! We select themes that make it possible to do hands on activities for pre-school girls. What better activity than to decorate cupcakes just the way you like them and then eat them?! Well, this is one of the books that we read. It is very colorful and eye-catching. The pictures are BIG and BRIGHT! The little brown girl sharing the story speaks of all her friends and their different skin colors. She also touches on the fact that her family is made up of different skin colors.There are two awesome points about this book. It demonstrates the diversity of kids(people), and the illustrations are very good at doing so. Secondly, the pretty little brown girl in this book is a young girl, but she is teaching a very mature and important message.. Although different on the outside, we are all the same.

This is a great learning tool for children as early as age 2. You can make it a family affair or at a children's party with a book reading. Bake cupcakes and have the children decorate the cupcakes themselves. Then discuss with the children what their cupcakes represent when it comes to their inner creativity.......Great tool for children to use at an early age to appreciate and love themselves from the heart, thus decrease bullying around their peers.
This book sends a positive message about embracing diversity in children and all people, and it does so in a colorful,simple format that preschool-aged kids will love. Even my 9-year-old son thought it was adorable! Highly recommend this book if you want something fun and lovely for a young child.
When I wrote this book it did not start out this way. My concept was to teach both adult and children that we all must embrace ourselves and our differences when it comes to outer appearances. it was not about race, it was about just being. I love this book and children love the bright colors. I was open to embrace everyone's suggestions and after 10 heads got together, my book and my concept was born. Thank you all for helping me find the inner strength in children who will grow up to become competent adults who will embrace themselves, some through their children. Ansaba Gavor wrote this book for her daughter. On a radio interview, she said that "adults can learn through their children." The book is definitely a kid's book, but it's also a (sweetly delivered) message to teach our children as we remind ourselves that we should all appreciate each other.
